Act Sustainable 2020 goes online!

We are proud to announce that Act sustainable 2020 will be a weeklong digital event. The ordinary physical events around the campuses on Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg have been swapped to an online forum. This means that all official events of Act Sustainable will be held online and all side events will provide the opportunity for digital participatio

This is not what anyone thought or hoped for when planning began in 2019, but times of need demand innovation and offer great opportunity to explore new paths. Now we are very excited to traverse this new path together with our program partners, and of course all participants eager to delve into sustainable development.

Official program

The official program will consist of events hosted by Gothenburg centre for sustainable development and selected program partners from Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg. The program will have a multidisciplinary approach and each event will tackle one major sustainability challenge. The official language is of the week is English and it is open to all students, teachers, researchers, and staff at the two universities. Where capacity allows us to, we will stream events to the general public.

If you are interested in hosting an official event, please reach out to Karin Bylund (Karin.bylund@gu.se).

Side events

Departments, student unions, student organizations, faculties and external partners are encouraged to host side-events. These events will be presented on the official Act Sustainable website. The side events can be hosted exclusively for internal staff/students or selected groups, or open for the public. As we aim to highlight as many sustainability initiatives as possible happening within the universities, we encourage students and staff to notify us of any initiatives planned or in progress.

Registration for side-events will open when the fall semester of 2020 start.

Guidelines for events

Official events should:

  • Have a multidisciplinary approach and involve speakers/moderators from different faculties, preferably also from both Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg.

  • Be in English.

  • Address one major sustainability challenge and it should be solutions oriented, addressing what needs to be done to solve the challenge.

  • The thematic choice should be aligned with the overarching theme of: Multidisciplinary knowledge and collaboration for a sustainable world.

Guidelines for side-events for Act Sustainable 2020:

  • Participation is free

  • Event can be hosted in Swedish or English

  • The event can be in a physical venue if it is possible to follow official recommendations and restriction, however digital participation should be made available.

Please note that Act Sustainable 2020 maintains the right to remove or deny events from the program.

General tips for a successful event:

  • The popular-science based events usually attract more people than the traditional academic ones. We as many students as possible to participate in the week, regardless of thematic knowledge or theoretical background. Keep this in mind when planning events.

  • Swedish/English or both? We would like as many events as possible to be held in English or bilingual for greater accessibility for all students and staff.

  • A good title! An exciting, a little provocative or inspiring title can really help grab the audience’s attention.

  • Format. Can the event be arranged in a new and inspiring way? Workshops, interactivity, quizzes and experiments are always appreciated.

  • Interdisciplinary. Can the event include another faculty? We are happy to connect you!
